Today in YA History: September 6, 2007 – Madeleine L’Engle passes away

September 6, 2007: In Litchfield, Connecticut, Madeleine L’Engle passes away at the age of 88. Since its 1962 publication, her novel “A Wrinkle In Time” has been continuously in print.

Madeleine L’Engle, who was born in New York City in 1918, wrote more than 60 books during her career. Her last novel, “The Joys of Love”, was a romantic coming-of-age story that she wrote in the 1940s but that was published in 2008 posthumously. This Newbery Award winning author is dearly missed.

She once said, “The great thing about getting older is that you don’t lose all the other ages you’ve been.” It’s advice we all should keep, as lovers of Young Adult literature and beyond.

We miss you, Madeleine!
